Is this the end of an era?
Much-maligned, little-used right-back Douglas Pereira could finally be on his way out of FC Barcelona, in exchange for veteran fullback Mariano Ferreira from Sevilla, per a report by Estadio Deportivo, an Andalusian source.
Mariano is turning 30 soon, but Barcelona sporting director Robert Fernández is a fan. Sevilla's chief Monchi, one of the most lauded executives in Spanish football, has supposedly given his OK for the deal, as has coach Unai Emery, who may be leaving to join PSG anyway.
Sevilla may want an additional sum aside from getting Douglas, but the cost would be quite low for Barcelona as they continue to try to fill the void left by Dani Alves.
If Douglas leaves Barcelona, he will leave not having lost a single game he participated in, and having been part of a squad that won a total of seven trophies in two seasons.
If a highly-regarded sporting director like Monchi does really have high hopes for Douglas, is it a sign that the player has the potential deep down? Or is Barcelona doing the right thing by finally offloading him?
