After two years out on loan, Denis is coming back to try his luck with the senior squad at the Camp Nou
In what's possibly the least surprising development of recent memory, FC Barcelona have officially announced their intention to exercise the buyback clause in Denis Suarez' contract on July 1. The Galician midfielder has spent the past two seasons plying his trade for two of the best teams in La Liga, first spending a season under Unai Emery at Sevilla before moving on this summer for a year at UEFA Champions League qualifiers, Villarreal.
Evidently, he has impressed the Barcelona hierarchy with his performances as they intend to bring him back to the senior squad when the transfer window formally opens. The cost to the club? Why that's going to be a mere €3 million, as the incumbent board placed an excellent clause in the contract when they first sold him on in 2014. Of course, Denis is worth far more than €3 million, so whatever happens, Barcelona stand to gain with this move.
In case you've missed out on his development over the past two years, Denis (I mean we can't call him Suarez, otherwise it'll get confusing) has established himself as a fine attacking midfielder, who is equally capable of featuring on either side of attack. His return will give head coach Luis Enrique even more options to consider in what's already quite a stacked midfield roster.
