Euro 2016: 19 June 2016; Live Open Thread

A slow day at the Euro today as only two games will be played, both at the same time - in the late slot, but those two game will give us a definitive answer on the final standings in group A. In Lyon Romania will take on Albania while in Lille Switzerland will try to hand France their first loss.

No matter what happens today, France will advance to the knockout phase of the competition, even with a loss, but can secure a first place finish with at least a draw, which would likely lead to an easier opponent in the Round of 16. Switzerland are likely to advance regardless and they are definitely through with at least a draw. Also, as long as Romania don't win Switzerland are through, but even if Romania beat Albania, a low-difference Swiss loss would leave them with strong chance of advancement . A Romania win coupled with a Switzerland loss would see Romania leapfrog Switzerland in the standings, but even if Romania remain in third place a win would likely be enough for them to advance. A draw almost certainly will not be enough for Romania to advance as a third-place finisher. Albania can't move up to second place even with a win, but for any hope of ending in the top-four of the special third-place standings Albania need to beat Romania, preferably win a high margin.

Both matches figure to be close-fought affairs with all teams still having plenty to prove. France might have won both of their games but both came in the dying moments. Switzerland has, despite boasting plenty of talent, failed to impress, only beating a 10-man Albania. Romania and Albania proved competitive in both of their respective games against higher profile teams, but were in the end left frustrated with a combined three losses and a single draw.

If you're tuning in to watch the games, why not do so with friends and comment on the action below? Enjoy the games!
