A Barcelona newspaper just wrote a story about CLONING Messi. Seriously.

You know it’s the international break when...

“It would be possible to clone Messi, and we would have a very similar being.” That’s a real headline being published by Mundo Deportivo, the biggest sport daily in Catalonia.

Apparently this stems from a Cadena SER interview where Arcadi Navarro, a genetic expert who is responsible for the European Genome Archive, stated that “yes, it is possible to clone Messi with current techniques.”

That’s the descent into madness the international break brings to football fans as club football vanishes for days on end, and all we have to write about is transfers and... this.

If you don’t like that story, how about Diario SPORT interviewing Francesc Xavier Álvarez, a physics professor from the Autonomous University of Barcelona? He spends a long time on a whiteboard explaining Messi’s chipped goal against Real Betis, and why it’s “perfect.”

That we’re spending so much brainpower on Messi is a testament to how much of an icon he is. And also how silly things get during the international break.

If you’re more of a traditionalist, you might appreciate this video more though. It’s just Ray Hudson, former player and coach and now commentator for BeIN Sports, talking about Messi, a player whom he considers the best ever.

“It’s not the statistics,” he says. “It’s definitely not the statistics... Statistics are signposts for measuring achievements, absolutely. And we see great players achieve great statistics. And then there’s the art of football... How do you measure the human heart?”
