Barcelona suffered another injury blow on Sunday as Thomas Vermaelen was forced off with injury during their La Liga clash at Real Betis.
Vermaelen limped off after 40 minutes after pulling up while chasing back, a little bit similar to how Samuel Umtiti picked up his injury.
Fortunately for Barcelona Umtiti was back in the squad and replaced the Belgian just before half-time.
It’s a real shame for Vermaelen who had been doing really well in the team in Umtiti’s absence and was making his 13th consecutive appearance.
Hopefully the injury is not too bad and we will see him back in action again soon. We’ll keep you posted on any updates on his injury and let you know how it’s looking.
In the meantime, Javier Mascherano is still expected to depart before the close of the transfer window, so Vermaelen’s injury could see new signing Yerry Mina get some action soon.
