What a game from Roberto
If you needed any more proof that Sergi Roberto has the talents to become the next great Barcelona full-back, this video is for you:
The 24-year-old youth system product struggled since earning promotion to the senior squad a few years ago, and looked set to move away from the Camp Nou until Luis Enrique arrived and started to believe in the young Spaniard. Roberto showed glimpses of good football in Lucho's first season, and then exploded onto the scene last season, playing in seven different positions and showing versatility, hard work and intelligence throughout the campaign.
With the departure of legendary right-back Dani Alves in the summer, Roberto became the first choice to replace the Brazilian, and while his appointment raised plenty of doubts among Barça supporters, Sergi has been nothing short of great since taking over the job. He is one of the most complete players in his position today, and he is as good going forward as he is without the ball. He's still young and needs to develop his game now that he's a full-time full-back, but he is already a fantastic player with the full package.
His performance against Sporting Gijón away from home in a very tough environment at El Molinón was the latest great display from the Spanish international. Roberto was voted Man of the Match by everyone, and his two assists along with great runs, smart defending and intelligent play made him the star of the show on Saturday.
