Barcelona have won a second consecutive La Liga game via a blowout, this time a 6-0 victory over Sporting Gijón at Camp Nou, with another great performance by Luis Suárez. Here's a few takeaways from what we saw on Saturday.
1. Barça can win tough games again
If you just look at the final score, you could be tricked into thinking it was just another easy win like the one against Deportivo La Coruña in mid-week. Well, it was anything but easy. The visitors were very organized on defense and brought plenty of danger in counter-attacks, especially in the first half. Up until the first penalty -- let's be honest, the refereeing was absurd in the end -- this was a very difficult game. It reminded me of the Celta Vigo match a few months ago: tough and hard-fought until the goals just started coming in rapid succession in the final minutes to end the game with a big result.
But that's a good thing. Barça lost all of the tough games in the last few weeks, but now the team can survive pressure and end up winning anyway. Good to see.
2. Luis Suárez is stupid
Watching the last two games from Suárez has been almost like a religious experience: he was absolutely sublime in both matches, and even though his performance on Saturday wasn't as spectacular and historic as what he did at Riazor, he still scored four damned goals. That counts for something. He is right back and even now the favorite to win the scoring title with the injuries hitting Cristiano Ronaldo at the end of the season. Just think: FOUR DAYS AGO, Suárez was five goals behind Ronaldo and the Pichichi was almost impossible. Now, thanks to eight strikes in two games, he has a three-score advantage. This is plain asburd. You're not fair, Pistolero.
3. Give Alen Halilovic time
There was some buzz about Halilovic's first ever start at Camp Nou, even if it wasn't as a Blaugrana. He said a couple of months ago that he wanted to play well and even score against his parent club, but the truth is the Croatian wasn't good. Yeah, he had a couple of those runs that made you wonder if Lionel Messi had switched shirts (the way they run is incredibly similar) and he was the creator in a few moments, but there was nothing overwhelming that screamed "THIS GUY HAS TO BE AT BARÇA NEXT SEASON!".
This is the thing, though: Halilovic is 19 years old. N-I-N-E-T-E-E-N. Let's just give him time to develop. There's no reason to rush, and he won't rush himself. He will develop into a monster, but he's just too young for that now.
