Atlético Madrid vs Bayern Munich, 2016 Champions League: All Updates

Atlético Madrid and Bayern Munich start to decide on Wednesday which of the two will travel to Milan next month to play the Champions League Final. The match features two of the best coaches in football who practice two completely different styles who come together for what promises to be a spectacular tie.

However, both Diego Simeone and Pep Guardiola are likely to miss very important members of their respective schemes. Especially for El Cholo, losing defender Diego Godín to a hamstring injury last week was a huge blow to his defensive system, which needs to be at its best to cope with Bayern's firepower. Godín is arguably the best central defender in football, and his absence is enormous for a team that needs to stop Robert Lewandowski.

Another key player for Simeone is midfielder Yannick Ferreira Carrasco. The Belgian is an important threat on the wings, with incredible skills and speed to carry the team on his back and create very dangerous chances through counter-attacks. Carrasco suffered a knock to his ankle in last Saturday's league game against Málaga, and while he is likely to be available, he will not be at his physical best.

Turning to Bayern, Guardiola is once again going to miss Dutch winger Arjen Robben. He makes the team better by his mere presence, and the Bavarian giants will certainly miss Robben's speed, shot power and individual skills. There are great replacements for him, but they're not quite like Robben. Another definite absence is Holger Badstuber, who is out for the season with a broken leg.

Jerome Boateng, who has missed more than three months with a groin injury, is working hard to make a comeback this Wednesday, but the German defender is more likely to play the decisive leg at the Allianz Arena.

Since all yellow cards have been wiped out at the conclusion of the quarterfinals, no players from Atleti or Bayern are at risk of not playing the return leg in case of a booking, unless (obviously) it is a red card.

Nothing is official yet, but these are the players at risk of missing the Calderón clash:

Player (Team) Injury Status
Diego Godín (Atlético Madrid) Hamstring Out
Tiago (Atlético Madrid) Leg Out
Yannick Carrasco (Atlético Madrid) Ankle Probable
Arjen Robben (Bayern Munich) Groin Out
Jerome Boateng (Bayern Munich) Groin Doubtful
Holger Badstuber (Bayern Munich) Leg Out
