American businessman Robert Sarver and his consortium recently bought a majority shareholding in the second-tier Spanish side and he is keen to raise the profile of the club by handing basketball star Steve Nash an ambassadorial role. Nash is friends with the former Juventus striker and, according to Marca, he has used that friendship to convince Del Piero to take up the role.

Michu, 29, scored 22 times for the Swans during the 2012-13 season as the Welsh side won the Capital One Cup Cup, while he also made his senior debut for Spain in a World Cup qualifier against Belarus in October 2013.
