The Dutch striker has joined on loan from Sevilla

New Barcelona signing Luuk de Jong has been talking about his move to the Camp Nou and why Ronald Koeman opted to bring him in on deadline day from Sevilla.

Koeman has made it clear he wanted to bring in another attacker during the transfer window and saw his wish granted after Antoine Griezmann departed for Atletico Madrid.

De Jong has spoken about his relationship with the Barcelona boss and why he emerged as a target for the club.

“I always had a really good relationship with Koeman. For me it’s really special to go to Barcelona and work with him again. We can always speak good together about tactics because we know each other from the national team of Holland already.

“He told me he wanted a different type of striker in the team and that’s why he chose me so he can change things in games. People know my qualities and Koeman does as well. Hopefully it will work out really well.”

The striker also spoke about his relationship with compatriots Memphis Depay and Frenkie de Jong and also how he already knows Marc-Andre ter Stegen pretty well too.

“It’s really nice to meet players I know like Memphis and Frenkie. I have a good relationship with Memphis and Frenkie in the national team. I know Memphis also from PSV, we always played really good together and we showed it a lot of times. Hopefully it will work out at Barcelona as well.

“Also I know Marc-Andre ter Stegen from my time at Borussia Monchengladbach. We played together for one year, so for me it’s nice I know some people before I can go there so they can help me. I am really happy to join.”

De Jong’s first game for Barcelona could end up being against his former side. The Catalans’ first game back after the international is a trip to the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium on September.

La Liga had asked for the game to be postponed, because of a clash with South American World Cup qualifiers, but the RFEF has reportedly turned the request down and the game is currently still set to go ahead.
