A better offer is reportedly on the table

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly set to try and “hijack” Barcelona’s move for Netherlands international midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.

The Dutchman is set to leave Liverpool this summer after his contract expires and has been heavily linked with a move to the Camp Nou.

Yet PSG have now merged as a contender for Wijnaldum’s signature and look set to rival Barcelona for the 30-year-old, according to ESPN.

Wijnaldum’s agents have already met with Joan Laporta to discuss a move, but the report reckons PSG are ready to make “a much more generous financial offer” than the Catalans.

The midfielder is also said to be “leaning” towards a move to Paris currently, while Barca are said to be have “expressed doubts” over whether they can now land Wijnaldum.

Bayern Munich were previously linked with Wijnaldum but president president Uli Hoeness subsequently said his club weren’t interested.

Wijnaldum is thought to have been an express request from Koeman, whose future was confirmed this week, while reports had also claimed Lionel Messi was keen on the deal.

Yet it’s never been entirely clear where Wijnaldum would fit at Barcelona. The club hardly lacks for midfielders with Sergio Busquets, Frenkie de Jong, and Pedri around as well as youngsters such as Ilaix Moriba and Riqui Puig trying to force their way into the first team.
