The goalkeeper impressed on his return from injury

Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen offered his verdict on the team’s 2-1 Champions League win over Dynamo Kiev on Wednesday.

Goals from Lionel Messi and Gerard Pique handed the hosts all three points against a Dynamo Kiev side without a host of players but it was not an impressive performance.

Ter Stegen was Barca’s best performer on the night. The German made a string of saves on his comeback and spoke about his happiness at being back out on the pitch.

“For me, the important thing is to win this game. I was looking forward to being back on the pitch and doing what I like the most. I think they had a lot of chances, we have to improve and speak about that ... but we started well, we had good chances and we could have been further ahead.

“Late on we suffered, we suffered a lot and it made the game a little nervous late on. The important thing is winning this game. For me, getting back on the pitch and winning is the main thing. I am really happy for the team.”

The goalkeeper also spoke about his decision to renew his contract with Barcelona after signing an extension that runs until 2025 recently.

“I didn’t have any doubts about renewing. We wanted to find an agreement. It was a little tougher at first but it’s normal. We wanted to renew and we’ve managed that, the club and me.”

Ter Stegen’s performance was a big plus for Barca on an underwhelming night for Ronald Koeman’s side. The team’s win means they are have taken nine points from nine in the Champions League, but they continue to look far from convincing currently.
