The two clubs have defensive injuries
Argentine defender Ezequiel Garay has reportedly emerged as a possible target for Barcelona and Liverpool ahead of the January transfer window.
Both clubs have suffered plenty of defensive injuries this season and have lost key players to long-term problems. Virgil van Dijk had knee surgery in October, while Gerard Pique has also suffered a serious knee problem and looks set for a long lay-off.
Garay has now emerged as a possible option for both clubs in the winter market as he is a free agent after his contract with Valencia expired in the summer, according to Sport.
Barcelona’s main target remains Manchester City defender Eric Garcia, but the club have found negotiations with the Premier League club tricky and may wait until the end of the season when he’s free.
Garay could be a possible short-term option to bolster the defence, although it’s possible Barca could actually trust in their young players instead and give Oscar Mingueza a chance after a strong debut in the Champions League.
