The defender has a difficult choice to make
Gerard Pique met with knee specialist Dr Ramon Cugat on Wednesday to discuss his treatment options after picking up a serious-looking injury against Atletico Madrid.
There are fears Pique will be sidelined for a long time, but it’s not yet been confirmed how much time he will spend on the sidelines.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Pique is now considering his options after meeting with Cugat but would prefer to avoid going under the knife if possible.
Surgery to repair his knee injury would likely end Pique’s season. The report claims an operation would keep him out for at least six months and possibly longer.
A conservative treatment plan is another option which could see Pique back in action in around four months, and therefore able to return before the end of the current campaign.
Sport also reckon that Pique would rather avoid surgery but has yet to make a final decision, while Catalunya Radio report his mind is made up and he’s already started conservative treatment.
Meanwhile, coach Ronald Koeman was captured chatting about Pique to Dynamo Kiev boss Mircea Lucescu on Tuesday and told him he expected to be out for “four or five months.”
