The search for a new manager shows no sign of ending anytime soon
Ernesto Valverde’s future remains uncertain Athletic Bilbao president Josu Urrutia has admitted after speaking at a press conference today.
The 53-year-old has been heavily linked with replacing Luis Enrique at Camp Nou with many outlets claiming he is the favourite to be the next Barca boss.
Athletic Bilbao have now taken the opportunity to discuss the situation surrounding their coach whose current deal expires in June of this year.
"We are waiting to have a more concrete conversation with Valverde,” Urrutia said via Sport.
“It’s normal in football that these things happen. It’s happened twice with Ernesto two times and it could happen again. What ever happens, things will be done with discretion.
“Nobody can say we have spoken to any other coach. Valverde is the first option.
“Ernesto is doing very good work and knows that this club is always moving forward.
"Here the important thing is the team. We have no fear and we will go forward united as one.”
Urrutia’s words are something of a disappointment as there was an expectation ahead of his press conference he would confirm whether Valverde would stay or not.
As it stands we seem no closer to knowing who will replace Luis Enrique with new names being thrown in the mix on an almost daily basis.
