Sevilla and Celta Represent the Best Chances for Real Madrid to Drop Points

Barcelona need Los Blancos to drop at least 3 points.

Real Madrid escaped with all three points against Valencia thanks to an 85th minute goal that saw Los Blancos win 2-1. This means that there are 4 games left, in which either Real Madrid have to draw twice or lose once, in order for Barcelona to have a chance at retaining the league title.

Those are: away to Granada, at home vs. Sevilla, away to Malaga, and away to Celta. Granada are already relegated and have lost their past 5 games, it would be a bit of a miracle for them to get anything out of that, even at home.

Malaga area a decent team that has caused Barcelona problems this season, but their owner and coach have made some rather weird statements lately and that has led some to say they don’t inspire a lot of confidence.

That leaves Jorge Sampaoli’s Sevilla and Eduardo Berizzo’s Celta as the last two “bullets left in the chamber.”

Sevilla defeated Real Madrid in their previous meeting and will be fighting for third place with Atletico Madrid. They had a bit of a wobble in the past few months but they’ve won three of their past four now.

Celta are the team that knocked Real Madrid out of the Copa del Rey this season, so there’s no reason why they couldn't be the team to knock them out of first place, either. However, they will be conditioned by the Europa League, where they have a meeting with Manchester United on the horizon and then, a possible final to play.

Real Madrid have their own problems, too, of course, a semifinal UEFA Champions League clash against Atletico will be draining. But they have a squad that is filled to the brim with talent, so depth is less of an issue for them.

According to a report in Diario SPORT, Barcelona players themselves agree with the assessment: Sevilla and Celta are where the league can be won for Barcelona.

Let’s not count out Granada and Malaga just yet, though. The last time Real made the trip to Granada’s Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes, they needed a late Luka Modric goal to win 2-1.

And despite the declarations of the coach and owner, Malaga are a stubborn team for anyone to beat and Real Madrid have not been an exception lately. True, Malaga have won none of their previous 5 meetings with the capital club, but they've taken a few draws and Real Madrid only won by more than one once, and that was at the Santiago Bernabeu.
