The Dutch coach has hinted now is not the right time
Barcelona’s search for a replacement for Luis Enrique has taken yet another twist with Ronald Koeman admitting he dreams of being in charge at Camp Nou, ‘one day’.
The Dutchman is on an ever-growing list of possible candidates as speculation over who will be the next Barcelona boss increases as the end of season approaches.
Koeman openly admits he would love the job but the Everton boss claims he is in no rush to quit Goodison Park for Camp Nou.
“Everyone knows that I am from Barca, they know my love for a club where I grew up as a player and as a person,” he told Sport.
“In my life as a professional coach I have two dreams to fulfill. One, coach the selection of my country, Holland I have been able to do so, but my obligation to Everton has prevented me.
“My other wish, my other dream, is to train one day at Barca. That's the truth.”
Koeman was pressed further about the "one day" part of his answer and highlighted his commitment to Everton, who he signed a three-year deal with back in 2016.
"Yes, because I now owe to Everton," he added. "We have a very powerful and exciting project and we will reinforce our best to try to reach next season the Champions League.”
However, Sport kept going with the questions and Koeman was pressed further and asked what he would do if the club were to get in touch.
"That is a hypothesis in which we cannot enter too much. In football, as in life, as in business, everything can be talked about and discussed," he explained.
Koeman is understandably being careful with his words although it’s fair to say he doesn’t appear a serious contender for the post at the moment with Ernesto Valverde and Juan Carlos Unzue still apparently at the top of the list.
