Report: Barcelona to make giant transfer offer for PSG defender in January

Barça's longtime dream target is still a part of the transfer plans

Barcelona are not giving up on their dream transfer target.

According to a report from French newspaper L'Equipe, the Catalan giants are preparing a giant offer in the winter transfer window in hopes of signing Paris Saint-Germain center-back Marquinhos on a €60 million transfer. The Brazilian would be the final piece of Barça's squad renovation, and his ability to play as a central defender and full-back makes him a perfect target.

Marquinhos has been linked to Barça for the last three years, ever since he moved from AS Roma to PSG. The Brazilian is a big fan of Barça and the Catalan club sees him as the perfect replacement to Gerard Piqué. Marquinhos is still very young (22 years old) and has enough talent to play alongside Piqué right now and then anchor the Blaugrana defense for the next decade.

Over the last two summer transfer windows, the Blaugranes have been in talks with PSG trying to work out a deal, but the French powerhouse never wanted to sell, especially since the Catalans never offered more than €40 million for the player's signing. PSG also see Marquinhos as a future superstar, and want him to anchor their defense in the future.

After winning an Olympic gold medal with Brazil and watching David Luiz leave for Chelsea, Marquinhos is now an undisputed starter at PSG alongside Thiago Silva, and the two will probably be the center-back pairing at the Brazilian national team as well.

It's very hard to see Marquinhos leaving his fantastic situation right now, but if the reported €60 million offer is actually made, PSG officials might finally be tempted to let him go.
