Lionel Messi’s masterful run and cheeky assist to Luis Suarez has padded Barcelona’s lead over Leganes 2-0 in Saturday’s early league match. After giving his club the early lead, the defending and reigning Ballon d’Or winner played provider on this brilliant goal:
A mistake by the hosts allowed Messi to pick up possession in space in front of goal and that’s exactly what you don’t want to do as he’s probably the greatest player ever in open space. He does what Messi does and beats several players on the dribble, gets into the box and just as it looks like he’s about to slot home a finish, he knocks a pass over to Suarez for the easy tap-in.
It’s moments like these that separate Messi from everyone else in the world at the top level. Most would go for glory themselves, but he’s as unselfish as you’ll ever find and got his teammate an easy goal.
