Pep Guardiola (reportedly) tried to get one of the Barça stars, but they didn't want to leave
Pep Guardiola has guided Manchester City to a spectacular start to his first season in charge, and he could have had a Barcelona superstar on his team as well.
According to a report from The Sun, the former Barça manager and new City boss wanted to sign Lionel Messi and Neymar, and City officials had three conversations with the agents of each player, but both declined a move to England, forcing Pep to change his plans (allegedly) and go after Nolito and Leroy Sané.
The Messi link isn't surprising at all, given that Leo became the best player of all time thanks in large part to Pep's master plan to use the Argentine as a False Nine, where Messi turned into a goalscoring machine and the greatest footballer we have ever seen. Pep adores Messi, and would certainly love to work with him again.
Neymar's rumored negotiations are also not surprising, given that the Brazilian himself confirmed he spoke to "many clubs" over the summer. City surely were one of them, but the biggest offer came from Paris Saint-Germain, and Neymar declined them all to sign a new contract with the Blaugrana.
This particular report isn't exactly "stupid BS". It makes sense, and might as well have happened. We'll never know. But it looks like Guardiola is doing just fine without Messi and Neymar.
