No more signings until 2018 - should Madrid have spent like Barca did ahead of transfer ban? - Goal.com
Unlike last year, deadline day came and went without incident at Real Madrid. In 2015, the club were left red-faced after failing to sort out the paperwork to sign David De Gea. This time, there was little activity all summer as only Alvaro Morata was bought. But with a transfer ban around the corner, should Los Blancos have spent like Barcelona did in 2014?

La Liga could close the transfer spending gap to the Premier League in coming seasons as it increases broadcast revenues, according to a financial expert from Deloitte. The Premier League dominated this summer's transfer market with a record £1.165 billion spent, after a new television deal that will net English clubs £5.136bn, a 70 percent increase, over the next three years kicked in.

Please mind the gap. Or as they say on the Madrid underground: "please take care not to introduce your foot between the train and the platform." The English version works better when describing La Liga after the latest transfer window. In brief, and to stick with the trains analogy, Barcelona moved forward about five stations; Madrid maybe two; Atletico Madrid inched forward but barely enough for anyone to notice; and everyone else went backwards – in Valencia’s case almost back into the depot.

A club statement read: "Valencia CF have reached an agreement with FC Zenit for the transfer of footballer Ezequiel Garay. The Argentine international has joined Valencia CF until June 30, 2020."

Not that it's likely to have much bearing on the outcome of the move itself, but Valencia accidentally gave Eliaquim Mangala an inauspicious start to his loan move from Man City. In announcing the arrival via the club's official Instagram account, Los Che tried to create a multi-photo mosaic of the French centre-half in his new jersey.

Tottenham complete signing of Pau Lopez from Espanyol on loan - ESPN FC
Tottenham Hotspur have signed Espanyol goalkeeper Pau Lopez on a season-long loan with an option to make the move permanent. Lopez, 21, is expected to compete with Michel Vorm to be understudy to Hugo Lloris, who should return from a hamstring strain after the international break.
