La Liga: Deportivo La Coruña 0-4 FC Barcelona: Player Ratings

A detailed, player-by-player breakdown of Barcelona's confident La Liga win over Deportivo

Bostjan says: 8.0

As has been the case so many times this season no shots were able to beat Bravo. With Deportivo largely toothless and the defense in front of Bravo doing a largely good job the Chilean only faced two shots. The first one was a fairly straightforward stop on a shot lacking power, but on the second one he showed his reflexes and the ability not to fall asleep due to lack of action, punching away Juan Domínguez’s dangerous shot. Bravo’s ball skills were once again on show as he made every play with the ball at his feet look nearly as easy as Xavi makes them look.

Dani Alves

Alves had a largely pedestrian game on the right side of the pitch, basically coasting through large parts of the game. Though it also has to be said that he did make quite a few good defensive plays, leading the team in successful tackles by some margin. As usual, his passing was very strong as he once again combined very well with Messi, but his crossing was once again off the mark. But due to a poor reaction from the Deportivo defense one of his crosses actually led to an own goal.

Javier Mascherano
7.7

Fouls: 0

Bostjan says: 7.5

El Jefecito had another quiet game in the heart of the defense for Barcelona. In the first half you could hardly say he was even tested, though in the second half he had to make a couple of good plays, none better than the tackle he made mere yards from Bravo’s goal to stop Haris Medunjanin from getting a shot on goal. Mascherano spent the last 25 minutes of the game playing as defensive midfielder where he dealt with danger very well.

Gerard Pique7.3

Minutes played: 90

Touches: 77

Passes: 62

Pass Accuracy: 94 %

Tackles: 0

Interceptions: 6

Clearances: 3

Aerial Duels Won: 0

Fouls: 0

Bostjan says: 6.5

After having arguably his best game of the last two season against Atletico, Pique regressed against Deportivo, making quite a few silly mistakes. Ivan Cavaleiro caused him numerous problems throughout the first half, but thankfully, for Pique, the Portuguese forward was taken off at halftime. He then twice lost Isaac Cuenca, and the former Barcelona player could’ve easily made Barcelona pay on both occasions. Late in the game Deportivo created two more chances in his area of the pitch, first one because of a poor headed clearance, while the second came to fruition because of his poor positioning.

Jordi Alba
7.6

Minutes played: 90

Touches: 94

Passes: 81

Pass Accuracy: 89 %

Shots/Shots on Target: 1/1

Tackles: 2

Interceptions: 4

Clearances: 1

Key Passes : 0

Aerial Duels Won : 0

Bostjan says: 8.0

No matter whichever angle of the left side of the pitch the camera showed Alba was in the frame. He was all over the place, making plays in all thirds of the pitch. Though there have been many games in which he had a larger impact on attack, Alba was always there to provide support and width in this one. Defensively he was also ever-present, making numerous tackles and interceptions. He also managed to get in the way of a dangerous looking shot in the 74th minute to defuse a potent attack.

Sergio Busquets
6.8

Minutes played: 65

Touches: 89

Passes: 80

Pass Accuracy: 91 %

Tackles: 4

Interceptions: 1

Fouls Won: 2

Clearances: 3

Aerial Duels Won: 1

Turnovers: 1

Key passes: 1

Sam says: 7.5

Deportivo offered little in terms of a midfield threat, but when they did Busquets was on hand to stop any attack before it really developed. His four tackles and one interception ensured Deportivo weren’t allowed to get at the back four and on the rare occasion they did, the Galician side couldn't convert. A not too challenging game for the pivot of the team.

Ivan Rakitić
8.6

Minutes played: 90

Touches: 73

Passes: 63

Pass Accuracy: 92 %

Shots/Shots on Target: 2/1

Turnovers: 2

Key Passes: 4

Fouls Won : 1

Interceptions: 1

Sam says: 8.5

Rakitić helped get Barça going in the right direction. His clever corner routine with Messi was a glimpse of the understanding that would lead to the first goal. A delicately weighted pass over the top of the defence was met with a bullet header from Messi and Rakitić was also on hand to set up the Argentine’s hat trick. This time a chipped through ball over the legs of two defenders before Messi curled it into the far corner. A great game for Rakitić in which he was the creative force of the Barça midfield.

Andres Iniesta
7.6

Minutes played: 65

Touches: 70

Passes: 65

Pass Accuracy: 94 %

Shots/Shots on Target: 1 /0

Fouls Won: 1

Fouls: 1

Turnovers: 2

Key Passes: 1

Successful Dribbles : 1

Sam says: 7.0

With Rakitić largely taking up the creative duties, Iniesta was left to maintain control in midfield by keeping hold of the ball. He had the highest pas success rate of any outfield player and completed 65 passes, ensuring Barça dictated from midfield. However it would be nice to see more of his skill at working it into the box and creating serious chances.

Luis Suarez
6.9

Minutes played: 90

Touches: 60

Passes: 37

Pass Accuracy: 73 %

Shots/Shots on Target: 3/1

Turnovers: 3

Successful Dribbles: 4

Key Passes: 3

Fouls Won: 0

Tackles: 2

Ahmed says: 7.5

His finishing wasn't at the required level but he terrorized the Deportivo defence with his unselfish running, thus helping the team. Suarez was quiet early on but gradually improved and even got an assist to boot. 4 successful dribbles, 3 turnovers and key passes a piece makes for good reading.

Lionel Messi
9.6

Minutes played: 90

Touches: 90

Passes: 61

Pass Accuracy: 77 %

Shots/Shots on Target: 7/4

Fouls Won: 3

Successful Dribbles: 5

Key Passes: 0

Turnovers: 8

Tackles: 1

Ahmed says: 10.0

What’s there to write that hasn't already been written? He was, yet again, outstanding. Messi was absolutely everywhere. To top it all off, he scored three superb goals: a bullet header, a delightful dink and a stunning monster of a finish. If WhoScored scores you a perfect ten and Goal a perfect five, then there’s no reason for anyone else not to.

Neymar
8.7

Minutes played: 69

Touches: 67

Passes: 46

Pass Accuracy: 80 %

Shots/Shots on Target: 1/0

Fouls Won: 2

Key Passes: 0

Successful Dribbles: 8

Tackles: 3

Ahmed says: 8.0

Got the better of his opponent time and time again and created a couple of excellent chances for Suarez. Neymar with eight successful dribbles doesn't even tell half of the story. He showed tremendous skill at every available opportunity. Neymar was replaced on the 70th minute for Pedro with the Copa del Rey in mind.

Marc Bartra
7.6

Minutes played: 25

Touches: 20

Passes: 18

Pass Accuracy: 89 %

Tackles : 2

Arron says: 7.0

With a three goal lead secured, Luis Enrique turned to his bench around the hour mark to make a double change, bringing Marc Bartra and Rafinha into the game to rest Sergio Busquets and Andrés Iniesta ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Atletico Madrid. Bartra might have picked up a yellow card during his brief spell on the field, but he also made an incredible block tackle on Sidnei to stop what could have been a dangerous Deportivo attack.

Rafinha
7.3

Minutes played: 25

Touches: 23

Passes: 14

Pass Accuracy: 71 %

Successful Dribbles : 2

Arron says: 7.0

Quick feet and a tireless work ethic; it’s almost like Rafinha is a hard-working version of his brother Thiago. He obviously possesses the skill as evidenced by his two successful dribbles in the cameo appearance, but there’s a lot less of the arrogance that perhaps blighted Thiago’s spell at the club. Increasing in importance, don’t be surprised if Rafinha is challenging for a starting berth this time next season.

Pedro
6.8

Minutes played: 21

Touches: 12

Passes: 11

Pass Accuracy: 91 %

Arron says: 6.5

The Spaniard replaced Neymar in Lucho’s final change of the game and didn’t really contribute anawful lot in his spell upfront.

The Team8.7

Passes: 730

Pass Accuracy: 88 %

Shots/Shots on Target: 14 /6

Tackles: 24

Aerial Battles Won: 31 %

Fouls Won/Committed: 7/14

Arron says: 9.5

It wasn’t as dominant as our victory over Atletico Madrid last week and there were areas we could improve both as a team and individually speaking, yet it was more than enough to sweep Depor to one side and pick up the three points. At times, the football truly was mesmeric, although the test will come in midweek when we face Atleti again: can we replicate this form again, when it really matters?

Luis Enrique
8.1

Arron says: 9.5

Pretty much perfectly managed from start to finish; from the strength and consistency in his selection to his well-timed and smart substitutions. Certainly at the moment, Lucho isn’t looking quite so bad after all.

MOTM - Lionel Messi
88%

Bostjan says: Messi

It's hard not to give the Man of the Match vote to the man that scored the hat-trick. Only 12% of the voters didn't cast their vote to Messi. Neymar finished the voting in second place with 5% while Rakitić rounded off the top three with 4%.
