The FC Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu has decided to terminate as of today the contract of the Club’s Director of Football, Andoni Zubizarreta. The President, in the name of the Club, thanks Andoni Zubizarreta for his contribution, dedication and professionalism over the last four years in his role at the head of the Club’s football area.

Fiorentina technical director Eduardo Macia is among the names mentioned as successors to Andoni Zubizarreta at Barcelona. Macia, formerly of Valencia, Liverpool and Olympiacos, is said by Sport to be ‘gaining strength’ in the pack of contenders. Zubizarreta was on Monday sacked from his post after four years at Camp Nou, while his assistant, former Barca captain Carles Puyol, also resigned.

January 5 was a very special day for hundreds of Barça’s youngest fans. There were over 11,000 people in the Miniestadi for the open doors training session and after that the players went on their traditional visit to hospitals, sharing gifts and happiness with sick and injured children.

As is the tradition before Their Majesties the Three Kings of the Orient arrive in Barcelona bearing gifts for local children, the Barça first team offered their fans their own gift on Monday morning in the form of an open doors training session. And as usual, the Miniestadi terraces were packed, with hundreds of children among the 11,134 spectators that came to watch the team get back to work after a disappointing result at Real Sociedad the night before.
