Barcelona B 2013/14 - Where Are They Now?

Barcelona B have faltered since finishing 3rd in La Segunda in 2013/14. Here, we take a look at how each player of that squad has fared since then.

There has been much consternation over the state of La Masia and the perilous path youth players dream of walking from Mini Estadi to Camp Nou. The last great Barça B side - which finished 3rd in the 2013/14 Segunda División - contained a plethora of highly-rated youngsters. In two parts, I'll take a look at how players of that year's Barça B squad have fared since then. We start off with the goalkeepers of the squad.

Jordi Masip

Jordi Masip joined La Masia in 2004 at the age of fifteen. The Catalan goalkeeper spent his first year as a professional on loan at UE Vilajuïga, before returning to a backup role with Barça B. Sharing glove duties with Oier Olazábal in 2012/13, Masip impressed enough to be handed the starting shirt after Oier's departure in 2014. He was the team's first choice goalkeeper in 2013/14, keeping eleven clean sheets as he played thirty-four of the fourty-two league games. Jordi Masip is currently third choice in the Barça first team.

Adriá Ortolá

Adriá Ortolá signed for Barça B from Villarreal B after five years with El Submarino Amarillo. In 2013/14, Ortolá played the role of Jordi Masip's understudy. His game time in that successful year came in the months of November, December and January. During that spell, he started consecutive league games. Ortolá impressed sufficiently to succeed Jordi Masip as starter after the latter's promotion to the first team squad in Summer 2014. Ortola is currently on loan at La Liga side Deportivo Alaves, where he has played six full games in the Copa del Rey and one in La Liga at the time of writing.

Miguel Bañuz

Miguel Bañuz's spell at Barça was a short one, after joining from Elche. In 2013/14, the Spaniard made just a single appearance, playing the full ninety minutes in a 1-2 away win against Hércules on the campaign's final matchday. He was released in 2014 after five appearances in two seasons. He joined Villarreal shortly after, making nineteen appearances in two years for Villarreal B. Bañuz signed a one-year contract with Segunda División B outfit Alcoyano in Summer 2016.
