Barcelona, Lionel Messi in "advanced talks" for new contract - Report

This dumb soap opera will have a happy ending

The stupid rumors about Lionel Messi possibly leaving Barcelona have died a slow death over the last few weeks ever since it became quite clear there was no chance the Argentine superstar would be thinking about an exit from the Catalan giants. Now, Messi is taking steps to make sure he won't be leaving until he's ready to retire.

According to a report from Diario SPORT, Leo's father, Jorge Messi, arrives in Barcelona this weekend and is ready to sit down with club president Josep Maria Bartomeu to review the new contract offer from Barça and agree on all details that would lead to Messi re-signing with the club.

Sources say Barça want to keep Messi at the club until 2022, when he would be 35 years old and close to retirement, possibly. The new deal makes sure the Leo remains the highest paid player in European football (the Chinese guys take the world record now) and guarantees that Leo won't have to face tax problems again.

Both sides of the negotiations are very confident this one meeting that will take place after the UEFA Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain will be enough to seal the deal, and even if there are some small differences between Barça's offer and the player's demands, that wouldn't cause any problems to the expected signing of the deal that ensures is Messi staying at Barça for the rest of his career.

The club wants it. Leo wants it. They'll sign it. New deal, Messi staying, rumors dead. Life good again.
