For over a year now, the 'MSN' trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez and Neymar Jr. has dominated the world of football and brought Barcelona plenty of success. According to an important club figure, however, things should have been way different had they gone exactly as planned.
Barça legendary goalkeeper and former controversial sporting director, Andoni Zubizarreta, gave a revealing interview to Diario Marca in which he discussed some subjects he was directly involved in during his tenure as a club official. The most shocking revelation, undoubtedly, was that Luis Suárez, the final piece that made 'MSN' a world-beating group, was not actually the main transfer target.
"We had some options. The first one was not Suárez and he knows it. In the winter we wanted Agüero, but that never worked out. Then we moved on to Suárez. During the negotiation process the Chiellini incident happened. That moment caused doubts in many of the clubs interested in his signing. They questioned his character and they didn't know how serious the ban was going to be. In that moment I knew I needed to act quickly and speed up the signing process.
"I liked everything about him: he wasn't static, he could move outside the box and added a profile we didn't have. Another huge influential factor: from the first moment his willingness to sign for Barça. The ban was never a problem for both of us, nor the problems in his preparation."

Interesting quote there. Agüero had been linked with a move to Barça forever, but it's interesting to actually hear that confirmation from the guy who handled the signings. What if that move happened, though? The injury-prone Agüero joining Messi and Neymar. Would the three be as good together, on and off the field, as 'MSN' is? Would Barça win the Treble with 'MAN'? Would 'MAN' even work as a name for the trio?
I'm so glad Zubi missed on his first target.
