The defender did hold talks with Lyon in the summer
Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti has admitted he did hold talks with former club Lyon about a possible return in the summer but it was never a really serious option.
The center-back seems to be surplus to requirements at the Camp Nou after slipping down the pecking order due to his continued injury problems.
Yet the World Cup winner also spoke about his future and made it pretty clear he really wants to stay at the Camp Nou.
“Lyon is my team, it is my city. It is the team that has given me the opportunity to play in Europe, in Barcelona and with the national team. There were talks with them during the transfer market, but there was never anything concrete. I don’t see myself in a club other than Barcelona. I have been clear with everyone on this issue.”

Umtiti also added that he needs to “make up for lost time” but it’s difficult to see where he goes from here. His last appearance for Barca came in June against Celta Vigo and it’s tough to see him featuring again any time soon.
He’s behind Gerard Pique, Clement Lenglet and Ronald Araujo in the pecking order, and Ronald Koeman has also been keeping tabs on youngsters Oscar Mingueza and Santiago Ramos Mingo.
Barca also still seem keen to bring in Eric Garcia from Manchester City and could move for the teenager again either in January or next summer when he’ll be a free agent.
