The Catalan giants are not happy
Barcelona have issued a statement on VAR after their defeat to Real Madrid in El Clasico on Saturday at the Camp Nou.
The Catalan giants were angered during the match after VAR awarded a penalty for a shirt pull by Clement Lenglet on Sergio Ramos.
Ronald Koeman raged after the game that he didn’t think it was “enough” for a penalty and noted how Ramos has fallen forwards rather than backwards.
According to Sport, Barca are also mad because referee Martinez Munuera’s assistant advised it was not a penalty because “Sergio Ramos had fouled Clement Lenglet first.” However, the referee did not pay any attention and pointed to the spot.
Barca have now issued a statement outlining their unhappiness with the technology.
The Board considers that, in the cases of identical or very similar game situations, VAR has not upheld the essential criteria of ethics and fairness, which has had a serious negative impact on FC Barcelona and has benefitted its most direct opponents.

President Josep Maria Bartomeu also spoke about the controversy in a press conference on Monday evening. He said the club “is aware” of the conversation between the referee and his assistant and plan to study it and take action that’s “in Barca’s best interests.”
