The Dane has hinted at a future move away from Spurs
Does Christian Eriksen really fancy swapping Tottenham for Barcelona? That’s the question the tabloids have been asking recently and now the question has been put to the man himself.
There has been plenty of speculation linking the Denmark international with a move to Camp Nou this summer and the midfielder has now openly talked about his future.
“I still have a contract with Tottenham a few more years. There are always rumours about footballers,” he told Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet.
"Barcelona are a great club and I don’t think there are many who say no to Barcelona.”
Eriksen is contracted to Spurs until 2020 but did not rule out a move away from White Hart Lane when his contract expires.
“In the future I see myself at the highest level. That’s what I dream about. It can be in about two to three years," he added.
"It may be at another club or it could be Tottenham if we have come all the way up.”
So what does it all mean? Well, it sounds as though Eriksen is in no rush to leave Spurs and it’s quite understandable after another superb season for the club.
The Dane was named the Spurs’ supporters player of the year for the second time in four years this season and while Harry Kane and Dele Alli usually take the headlines, Eriksen’s contribution should not be overlooked.
Eriksen managed eight goals and 15 assists for Mauricio Pochettino’s team last season but his passing and vision are absolutely integral to the side and are key factor behind the club’s title challenges.
