Talks between the two parties appear to have begun
The speculation surrounding Marco Verratti and Barcelona has slowly been ramping up this week but Sport have taken it up yet another notch with today’s exclusive.
They report that Verratti and his agent Donato Di Campli met with Barcelona for the first time on Wednesday during his holiday in Ibiza.
There’s also plenty of rumours around today of Verratti having dinner with Lionel Messi in Ibiza, yet curiously while there are lots of pictures of both players, they don’t appear together. Make of that what you will.
Sport, meanwhile, claim the midfielder enjoyed a fairly casual meeting with Barcelona director Javier Bordas where they informed him of Verratti’s desire to move to Camp Nou and confirmed they are pushing PSG for an exit.
In fact the report claims they the only thing missing now is agreement between PSG and Barcelona, but that’s the tricky part isn’t it?
Di Campli has already admitted engineering an exit from a PSG side that do not want to sell will be “difficult” and they may have to push hard if a move is to happen.
In the meantime we have Italian legend Paolo Maldini telling us how perfect his compatriot would be at Camp Nou.
"Verratti is extraordinary, with qualities that I appreciate very much, and I think he is destined to improve if he leaves Paris [Saint-Germain] to try a new experience," Maldini told Calciomercato.com.
"Barcelona would be, of course, an ideal destination for him and I think he too would be a perfect player for Barcelona."
Perfect he may be, but Barca look like they will have to be patient if they are to land their man as this looks like one transfer saga that will dominate the headlines for the whole of the summer.
