Sergio Busquets leads this part of the list
Just a reminder, these grades are given as a measure of how the player lived up to expectations. Therefore, they are relative, not absolute. They’re highly subjective so please tell us where you agree and disagree!
Sergio Busquets
Busquets remains a core building block to FC Barcelona, as evidenced by the fact that missing him in the first leg against Juventus (which Barça lost 3-0) probably was one of the main reasons the Blaugrana were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League. That said, Busquets’s start to the season was uncharacteristically patchy, though that’s probably not entirely his fault. However, he came good at the most important parts of the season, which made a lot of us forget about those early wobbles.
Grade: A-
Ivan Rakitic
Another player that started the season quite slow but came into his rhythm later on. Highlights included memorably scoring his first Clasico goal, smashing a shot past Real Madrid’s keeper Keylor Navas. Lowlights include allowing Paris Saint-Germain’s lone goal in Barcelona’s 6-1 triumph. The 29-year-old exists in an interesting space right now. He’s good enough to play a role at Barça but his position as starter is quite tenuous.
Grade: B
Andre Gomes
Gomes was Barcelona’s most expensive signing last summer, and Luis Enrique clearly intended Gomes as perhaps a starter or at least a 12th or 13th man. Gomes was given many chances but until towards the end of the season he looked quite lost. He’s talented, no doubt; he’s young, and he’s learning. But his learning was too slow this season when you consider what he was bought for.
Grade: D
Carles Aleñá
Aleñá played just a few games, though he did bag his first senior goal in the Copa del Rey. What little we saw from him though, was quite encouraging. Let’s see what the future holds.
