Barcelona's Dembele chase looks over...for now

The club are prepared to wait for the Frenchman

After missing out on Ousmane Dembele last summer, it looks like Barcelona are again going to be frustrated in their attempts to sign the talented Frenchman.

After reports Barcelona had agreed a five-year deal with Dembele emerged recently, Dortmund were quick to hit back with a swift and short "hands-off" warning to the Blaugrana.

That has been swiftly followed by Mundo Deportivo claiming that Barcelona will now wait until next summer, to try to land the 20-year-old.

The thinking is that with Dortmund in no mood to sell their star man, Barca are better off focusing their attentions on their priorities this summer.

Right now, the club are widely believed to be focused on landing a right-back (Nelson Semedo or Hector Bellerin) and strengthening the midfield by bringing in Marco Verratti.

Neither Bellerin, Semedo nor Verratti will come cheap, therefore the report claims Barcelona are willing to postpone any potential move for Dembele until next year, when Dortmund may be more amenable to a sale.

Of course, that does mean Dembele could be targeted by other clubs and Mundo even claims interest from both Manchester United and Chelsea.

However, there appears to be a belief at Barca that the club still hold the edge for the player, who is reported to have previously told Robert Fernandez that he will play for the club one day.

He may well still live up to that promise, but it doesn't look like it will be next season.
