There appears to be one giant stumbling block
There appears to be good news and bad news with regards Barcelona’s reported pursuit of Nelson Semedo, with Portuguese newspaper O Jogo providing a fresh update.
The good news is that the report claims talks between the two parties are described as "advanced" but here’s the rub, negotiations over a move appear to have ground to a halt due to price.
While Barcelona remain keen on the right-back they are refusing to meet Benfica’s asking price of €50 million and the Portuguese side are not interested in haggling.
Benfica have already waved goodbye to goalkeeper Ederson who has joined Manchester City while Victor Lindelöf has agreed a deal with Manchester United and the club seem to be in no rush to lose yet another player.
Indeed Semedo’s current deal runs until 2021, with a release clause of €60m, and with Bayern Munich and Manchester United also reportedly interested, Benfica’s stance is understandable.
So far it looks as though it could well be a frustrating summer in the transfer market for Barcelona as they aim to strengthen the squad with a view to bouncing back after last season.
The club seem to be facing an uphill task of landing Marco Verratti after his agent described leaving PSG as "complicated" while a move for Semedo is also looking like being another difficult, and expensive, deal to do.
