He believes there is "serious institutional crisis" at the club
Augsti Benedito has lodged a vote of no confidence against the current Barcelona board.
The former presidential candidate believes there is a "serious institutional crisis" at Barcelona in a statement made today.
"The serious institutional crisis at our club requires that the club's members assess whether the current board still has our confidence," he said via Mundo Deportivo.
"If you are a club member and believe that to restore the club we love the board should resign, join up with the will of many other fans by signing the vote of no confidence."
To take the matter further, Benedito needs to find support from 15 per cent of the club’s members within 14 days - this is around 16,500 people - so no mean feat.
Josep Maria Bartomeu recently defended his record at the club and insisted he would not step down from his role as Barca president.
“To all those that have suggested the board and I are thinking of resigning, I tell them that we have no intention of doing so,” he said.
"From some sectors the ability of this board to run the club has been brought into question. We have been accused of not protecting the model and of only being administrators.
"We do not mind, given how football is nowadays, being considered good administrators, however, we are not losing the essence of the Barca model.
"I would prefer that we talk about the model of the club, something that develops, improves and enriches itself every day.
"We are still in the winning era that began with Ronaldinho and that [Lionel] Messi has consolidated. We have overcome the departures of Pep Guardiola and Xavi, the death of Tito Vilanova and the FIFA sanction.”
