Bellerin talks up Barcelona yet again & praises Valverde

The defender has added fuel to the fire

Hector Bellerin had once again fluttered his eyelids in Barcelona’s direction in a fresh interview where he also praised new boss Ernesto Valverde.

The full-back has been linked with a return to Camp Nou for practically the whole of last season despite signing a new long-term contract with Arsenal back in November.

Current speculation in Spain suggests the Arsenal star is Barcelona’s first choice for the problem right-back position although Nelson Semedo is also on the agenda.

Bellerin has addressed the rumours and rather than play down talk of a move, his latest comments will only add further fuel to reports he will head back to Spain this summer.

“It is very nice to hear about the interest from a club like Barca, the club I grew up with from when I was a kid,” Bellerin told Mundo Deportivo.

“I do not know anything at the moment. I’m an Arsenal player, but we’ll see what happens.

“It’s something you don’t think about when you leave, because you do not know how things are going to go.

“I was lucky enough to join Arsenal, things have gone well, and now receiving this kind of news from Barca makes me happy, but that does not just depend on me.

“I have always been very happy [in London], my family settled over there with me, though now for family reasons they have returned to Barcelona.

“Now I have a harder time, because I am a very family-orientated person. I depend a lot on them, and it will be a challenge being apart from them.”

Bellerin’s comments on being away from his family are not quite a come-and-get me plea – but they’re not far off it and he followed it up with his views on Valverde

“Of course [I have followed his career]!” he added. “He is a coach whose style will suit Barcelona very well. He had had a very good season with Athletic and I think he will fit in very well at Barca.”

Bellerin has frequently admitted he’s happy to hear of interest from Barcelona and if the Blaugrana really are interested it looks as though they will not have too much difficulty tempting him back to Spain.

Of course the problem will be prising him away from Arsenal who will demand a huge fee, particularly as he is still just at the beginning of a long-term deal.

Get comfy guys, this one's going to run and run…
