OFFICIAL: Three-game ban rules Neymar out of El Clasico 2017

The Brazilian will play no part at the Bernabeu

Barcelona will have to make do without Neymar after it was confirmed the Brazilian will serve a three-match ban for his red card against Malaga.

Neymar picked up two yellow cards in the match, the first for preventing a free kick from being taken by tying his bootlaces, before later clashing into Diego Llorente.

However, the Brazilian made matters worse by then sarcastically applauding the match officials as he departed the field, leading to an extra game ban.

Neymar will now miss Saturday’s visit from Real Sociedad as well as the trip to the Bernabeu on April 23 and the visit from Osasuna.

The Brazilian’s absence will be a big blow to Barca with Neymar having five goals and four assists in his last seven games for Barca.

Barcelona are likely to feel hard done by with Javier Mascherano insisting he has seen other players get away with similar offences in the past.

"There have been other players who have done the same and have only received one-game suspensions. We'll see,” Mascherano said when asked about the potential ban.

"It is very easy to talk from the sofa at home and very difficult to make decisions in high intensity.

“Sometimes you are wrong, it has happened to me, and there is nothing left to learn from the error.

"We are not going to point blame between us. When someone is wrong or gets into trouble, we tend to try to help him."
