Barcelona 7-1 Osasuna: Community Player Ratings

Camp Nou saw a big win on Wednesday night

Marc-André ter Stegen

Was completely wrongfooted by Torres’ free kick but otherwise had very little to do in an extremely one-side 90 minutes at Camp Nou.

Javier Mascherano

What a night for Javier Mascherano who finally opened his account for Barcelona after seven years with an emphatic penalty. He might have had another too, Salvatore Sirigu pushing his header onto the post. Also delivered a delicious ball to an unmarked Paco Alcacer in the box, which he might have done better with, in an all-round superb display.

Gerard Piqué

Was a little unlucky not to find himself on the scoresheet too with a header that looked destined for the back of the net until Mondragon hooked it clear. Showed great technique to bring the ball down in the area before hitting the post, just seconds before Gomes picked up the loose ball and slotted home.

Lucas Digne

A rare start for Digne and a decent display at the back against a limited Osasauna side. Got forward a few times and picked up some promising attacking positions.

Sergio Busquets

Not his best display by all means and was also guilty of giving the free kick away from which Torres scored Osasuna’s goal.

Andre Gomes

Had a nervy start to the game but improved after he thumped the ball home just under the half hour mark with a simply superb finish. Added a second with another clinical finish after latching onto a loose ball in the box and looked to visibly gain in confidence from his goals.

Ivan Rakitic

Set up Gomes for his first goal with a lovely cross and also had a hand in Messi’s second. Was a little unlucky to be denied a penalty after being barged off the ball in the box but was frequently involved and provided good supply from the right.

Denis Suarez

A quietly influential display for Barcelona. He won the penalty after being brought down by Fran Merida and also set up Paco Alcacer for his second goal of the night.

Arda Turan

Back in action after injury and was fairly quiet although did have some good moments. Might have scored but missed with a header but was involved in Messi’s second goal.

Lionel Messi

Another dazzling display by Messi who set Barcelona on their way after showing great anticipation to steal possession before dinking it perfectly over Sirigu. Added a second with a precision finish before being given a well-deserved rest in the second half.

Paco Alcacer

Made great runs all night long but found it tough going with the slow pace of the game in the first half. A more productive showing after the break and got the goals his hard work deserved.

Carles Alena

Was handed half an hour of first-team football with the team in cruise control.

Luis Enrique

Made five changes for the game and this time his rotation worked well with key players allowed a deserved rest and squad members given the chance to shine.

The Team

Lionel Messi was fantastic once again, the squad players stepped up and there were confidence-boosting goals for Andre Gomes and Paco Alcacer. Seven goals scored, three points gained and plenty of positives after a strong performance against La Liga’s bottom side.

Man of the Match

BB Readers say: Messi

Gill says: Probably Messi but give it to Mascherano for the goal!
