Barcelona tired Espanyol out & forced mistakes, says Luis Enrique

It wasn’t pretty but it was another huge win

Luis Enrique says Barcelona’s high pace and intensity tired Espanyol out and allowed them to take advantage of mistakes after their 3-0 win at the Cornellà-El Prat on Saturday.

After a tight and scrappy first half the visitors had to wait until after the break to open the scoring, Luis Suarez pouncing on a poor backpass to end his recent goal drought,

Ivan Rakitic then doubled Barca’s lead before Suarez took advantage of more poor defending to wrap up the points which left Luis Enrique delighted after the game.

"We have two very clear and precise goals - the league and the cup - and we are going to go at it with everything," he told a post-match press conference.

"I am delighted with the team. In the first half, it may not have been as effective or spectacular, but we managed to wear out Espanyol.

"It was a derby with intensity on the part of the two teams, but we were very compact.

"Without that performance, there would not have been our second half. We knew if we set a high pace during the 90 minutes, we would have more chances.

"This high pace then served to make the most of their mistakes."

It may not have been the prettiest win of the season, but at this stage all that counts are the three points particularly after Real Madrid’s win over Valencia.
