Former Real Madrid Boss Fabio Capello Calls Sergio Ramos’ Foul on Messi “Criminal”

Strong words after a tense Clasico

Sergio Ramos was sent off in the 77th minute as his Real Madrid eventually succumbed to Barcelona in El Clasico by a score of 3-2. He got a straight red for a leaping, two-footed challenge on Lionel Messi.

And Fabio Capello, who served two spells as Real Madrid manager, the latter with Ramos on the team, had some strong words: “You just have to watch the play. Look at the challenge, it's criminal. The player is rightly dismissed.”

But Ramos protested the red card, even saying after the match that he believed Barça defender Gerard Piqué influenced the decision. Ramos insisted he did not set out to injure the Argentine star.

But his former manager was having none of it, speaking as a pundit on Fox Sports: “Every time there's a Clásico at the Bernabeu, the Madrid players try to injure Messi. [Ramos'] action is a clear red card.”
