Report: Real Madrid to Appeal Sergio Ramos Red Card in El Clásico

Wow...

Influential Madrid-b(i)ased paper Diario AS is reporting that Real Madrid are going to appeal Sergio Ramos’ red card, which would ban him from their upcoming La Liga game against Deportivo La Coruña.

The defender was given a straight red in the 77th minute of Los Blancos’ 3-2 loss to Barcelona in El Clasico as he went in two-footed on Lionel Messi.

Ramos insisted that Messi jumped, so he “didn’t even touch” the forward. Real Madrid recognize it as a foul but insist it was never a red. They reportedly see their chances of the red being overturned as low, but feel they must go through with it as they lack central defenders right now with Pepe and Raphaël Varane injured.

The Real Madrid player was shown sarcastically applauding afterwards, which Barcelona fans say merits a further ban. Neymar missed the Clásico after sarcastically clapping a ref’s decision, after all. But Ramos insists he was actually directing it at Gerard Piqué, whom he blames for influencing the ref. The referee himself did not note Ramos’ action in his report.

This all comes as Sergio's former boss, Fabio Capello (who coached Real Madrid during two spells) went in on his former player. Capello said on Fox Sports that Ramos’ challenge was “criminal” and that he was tired of seeing Real Madrid “trying to injure Messi.”
