The coach couldn’t fault his players at Camp Nou
Luis Enrique says his team fought until the end against Juventus but claimed the ball simply didn’t want to go in as Barcelona were knocked out of the Champions League.
The hosts were unable to produce another miracle as they were held to a goalless draw by Juve at Camp Nou with the Italian champions progressing to the semi-finals.
Barca had chances to score but couldn’t find a way past Gianluigi Buffon but Enrique remains proud of his players’ display.
"For me, I’ll take the attitude of my players and the fans up until the last moment. We fought until the very end,” he told a post-match press conference.
"When you don’t have the ball, bringing pressure generates dangerous situations. There was little time to relax, we had several shots towards their goal. We tried. We had a good attitude and the players were ambitious but the ball didn’t want to go in.
“Tonight, we saw two teams who attack. Juventus also looked for opportunities on the counterattack. It was difficult for our players to control their intensity on attack after recovering balls on defense.
"A victory today it would have been deserved for us, but Juventus deserve to go through.
"A poor first half in Turin cost us a chance to go through. In the second half, we had more chances than our rivals even though we gave up a goal."
Barcelona must quickly bounce back with a vital Liga fixture against Real Madrid up next with Lucho keen for victory against los Blancos who played extra-time against Bayern Munich in midweek.
"We have a chance to move into first place in La Liga against a direct rival. It’s a great opportunity,” he added.
"Now we must focus on the two competitions that we are still in.
"I love being part of a club like this one, where everyone wants to win everything from the beginning of the season. This is a night to feel very proud of being a Barça fan."
