Turns out next season will be Pep Guardiola's last at Bayern Munich. He's not returning to Barcelona, though.
Widespread reports from Germany, England and Italy claim that the legendary and innovative manager is set to join Manchester City for the 2016/17 season. BeIN Sports also suggests that a deal has already been agreed between the Catalan coach and the Citizens, and Guardiola will meet with Bayern officials next week to inform his decision.
A Guardiola move to ManCity has been rumored for months, and after Bayern's loss to the Blaugrana in last's season Champions League, the deal seemed inevitable. However, Pep decided to stick around for the last year of his contract in Germany, and he'll try to potentially end his Bayern Era in a big way.
Since moving to the Bavarians in 2013, Guardiola is far from being an unanimity for fans and club officials. He inherited a Treble-winning squad, and in trying to implement his own style and identity, Pep never repeated the success of his incredible stint at Barça. Also, the controversial transfer of Toni Kroos and now Bastian Schweinsteiger did not please many higher ups at Bayern, and the relationship between Guardiola and those officials is not as good as it used to be.
When he left Barcelona and announced he would take a full year off to recharge his batteries and choose a new team, Pep had ManCity as one of his biggest suitors. The richest club in England offered to give Guardiola everything he wanted to have a squad that fits his style and is full of stars to win everything. At the time, he decided to go to Germany, but the famous book by Martí Perarnau, Herr Pep, repeatedly mentions the coach's desire to move to England once his time at Bayern came to a close.
If the reports are accurate, that move will happen next year.
