Since Adriano Correia is close to leaving, Barcelona is reportedly looking to maintain the depth on its defense.
According to a report from French newspaper L'Equipe, the Blaugrana are holding talks with AS Monaco defender, Aymen Abdennour. The Tunisian center-back is the leader of his team's defense, and he has been linked with a move to a bigger club since last season.
His agent is desperately trying to get him to join the Catalan giants, and he might have gotten a shot at it. The outlet reports that the two have made a trip to Barcelona to meet with Ariedo Braida and other club officials. They are trying to work out a transfer deal in which Abdennour would stay at Monaco for the rest of 2015. Once the transfer ban is over, the 25-year-old would officially move to Barça and be part of the first team.
Despite comments from club president Josep Maria Bartomeu mentioning that the squad is complete with the signings of Aleix Vidal and Arda Turan, there will be need to replace Adriano if he indeed goes, and Abdennour could join to play as a center-back, with players like Jérémy Mathieu and Thomas Vermaelen able to serve as backups to Jordi Alba.
Since the starting pair of Gerard Piqué and Javier Mascherano was more than great last season, there's really no need to bring a superstar CB. Adding a cheap quality backup might be the best way to go, and Abdennour is more than willing to be that option.
