Monaco defender Aymen Abdennour is practically begging for a Barcelona transfer

A few days ago, news broke that Barcelona were allegedly in talks with Monaco in France to sign Tunisian defender Aymen Abdennour. The 25-year-old left-sided center-back was rumored to sign with the Blaugrana last season, but the Catalan giants signed Jérémy Mathieu and Thomas Vermaelen instead.

With the imminent departure of Adriano Correia to Italy, a spot on the squad for a defender opens up, and Abdennour sees this an opportunity to join. And he's making it clear that he wants a move to Catalonia, and he's even talking to Monaco president about leaving.

"The president promised me I could go if an opportunity like this came up and I have full confidence in my directors that it will be like this.

"I've already said I would love to go to Barcelona, it's normal, but I am a player at Monaco. I've returned to training and I feel good. I have to apply myself to work and concentrate on my team. The rest will be decided by the president.

"I'm taking it all calmly. They are complicated situations, but I'm taking it as calmly as I can. I have a contract up to 2019.

"To live the experience of playing in another championship in a different country is my desire, but I insist, I am in the hands of the president."

Abdennour's situation is very similar to what Mathieu experienced last year. The former Valencia player repeatedly asked for a Barça move, and he took to the press and involved the president in the deal to force a way out. In the end, the transfer was inevitable.

Though he's not really necessary this year, Abdennour might be the next CB to land in Barcelona after begging for it.
