The end of Adriano Correia's stint as a Barcelona player is now very, very close.
According to widespread reports from Italian and Spanish outlets, the 30-year-old full-back is set to change his club, and will join AS Roma from Italy in the upcoming days. The Brazilian is currently touring the United States with the Blaugrana, and is expected to play on Tuesday against LA Galaxy to kick off the pre-season.
The reports say that Barça's opponent in the Joan Gamper Trophy has agreed to pay a €8 million fee, and Adriano will sign a good four-year contract with the Giallorossi. However, because of the transfer ban, the player might stick around for the final months of this year, and join the Rome side in January of 2016, which basically means Adriano will be on loan for the end of 2016, if the deal goes through as reported.
A true definition of "full-back", Adriano played in every possible position since joining Barcelona from Sevilla in 2010. Under Pep Guardiola, he excelled as a right-back, left-back, winger, and central midfielder in a few games. He became known from his #AdriaGolazos, where he would cut from either wing to the middle and smash it to the opposite corner to score some spectacular goals. His defensive work and IQ made him an integral part of the Pep Team, and he won every single competition he participated in, which is an incredible accomplishment.
With Treble-winning coach Luis Enrique, however, Adriano never got a real chance, partly because of a scary heart problem that caused him to miss the beginning of last season. After that, he basically played in Spanish Cup matches only, but he still leaves the club as the winner of three championships.
He'll possibly stick around for a little while, but he'll be missed already. Thanks for everything, Adri.
