Iker Casillas's Mother Praises Barcelona, Attacks Real Madrid and Porto

The mother of the departing goalkeeper had some controversial words.

Iker Casillas, a legend and captain for club and country, is finally leaving Real Madrid.

Despite his storied career, the goalkeeper was put under intense pressure over the past few seasons in Madrid. The fans booed him on more than one occasion and several journalists turned against him.

Now that he seems on his way to joining FC Porto, many of Casillas's supporters are frustrated with Los Blancos' lack of reverence toward their captain as he finally leaves the club.

One of those supporters is Casillas's own mother, Mari Carmen.

She accused Real Madrid president Florentino Perez of orchestrating a smear campaign against her son, and described  orto as a "third-tier club." She said Iker should have gone for a European rival instead of trying to avoid direct confrontation with his old club - even if that rival was FC Barcelona.

"I wouldn't have minded if he joined Barça because they are gentlemen," she told Spanish media. The clear implication being: Real Madrid aren't.

Unfortunately for Iker, Barcelona seem well-equipped in goal already with Claudio Bravo and Marc-Andre Ter Stegen. Maybe Jordi Masip is thinking of vacating his spot as third-choice?
