The striker is in confident mood ahead of Tuesday’s game
Paulo Dybala almost cost Barcelona an eye-watering €90 million last summer as Robert Fernández sounded out Juve over a potential move and the club will now have the chance to see what they missed out on when the two teams clash in the Champions League.
Although the proposed move failed to go ahead, rumours persist Barca will still offer Juve a truckload of cash for Dybala who hasn’t exactly been shy about his admiration for the club.
“I would swim to Barcelona if they came knocking,” he said during his time at Palermo. “I wouldn't even have to change into my swimming gear. After all, I would only have to cross the Mediterranean.”
Dybala’s current deal runs until 2020 but he is yet to extend with Juventus which has kept the rumour mill churning, particularly due to his huge admiration for compatriot Lionel Messi.
"I really admire and respect Messi," he told La Repubblica. "He has won the Champions League many times, and I’m only dreaming about the first. I play for Juve and I want to win. On the pitch we are equal and I will do everything to beat him.
"Am I the new Messi? People need to understand that I am Paulo Dybala and I want to continue to be so. I understand the comparisons and expectations on me from the Argentinians, but I do not want to be the new Messi or the Messi of the future.”
Dybala has been doing the business again this season with 14 goals and six assists for Massimiliano Allegri’s men in all competitions and was inspirational at the weekend as Juve saw off Chievo 2-0.
The Italian champions will now take on Barcelona with little to fear. They are 21 games unbeaten at home in the Champions League and Dybala says this is the best time to play Barca.
"We must not be afraid, because we have great players," Dybala he explained."We're fine, this is the best time to deal with Barcelona.
“PSG conceded six goals at Camp Nou because they did not have the right attitude , and we learned something from that match.
"Their strong point is how to play the ball, they have a goalkeeper that is good with his feet, good enough to be a midfielder. Their weak point is when they do not have the ball. We must take advantage of this, taking a high line, starting from midfield.”
Dybala’s partnership with Gonzalo Higuain will prove a huge test, the former Madrid man has 27 goals in all competitions for Juve this season and the two are clearly on the same wavelength.
“With Gonzalo [Higuain] it is as if we have played together for five years,” says Dybala.
“At every training session we try to get to know each other better, we go to dinner together, and this understanding pays off even on the pitch. But a guy with his movement is easy to create assists for."
Barca conceded four on their last away trip in the Champions League but simply cannot afford a repeat against a Juve side that have conceded just two goals in the competition so far.
