Though it’s not as bad as it could have been
Rafinha had to be substituted off in Barcelona’s 4-1 win over Granada, and tests today confirm he had an injury in the meniscus of his right knee. He is likely to miss both legs against Juventus in the UEFA Champions League and the upcoming league Clasico against Real Madrid.
Thankfully though, the injury appears to be relatively slight, meaning it’s not as bad as it could have been.
He will be under observation for the next 48 hours to determine the best course of treatment for him. Hopefully he’ll be back in about a month.
Still, Barcelona will be without a player who has become a part of the Gala XI recently - during a critical period of the season. Juventus, Sevilla, El Clasico, and more, it’s all on the horizon.
Rafinha’s injury history is troubling, as well. Hopefully this will not be a recurring problem for the Brazilian midfielder.
Tactically, we might see Luis Enrique using Sergi Roberto instead of Rafinha in the right wing of the 3-4-3.
This injury pileup - Arda Turan is also out - could be something to watch.
