Barcelona's Neymar in danger of missing El Clásico following Málaga red card

A bad night for Barça just got even worse...

Barcelona forward Neymar could miss the upcoming El Clasico for sarcastically applauding refereee Gil Manzano after being sent off in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Málaga.

The Brazilian was booked in the first half after preventing the hosts from taking a free kick by tying his shoelaces just feet from where the kick was due to be taken.

Neymar was then given his marching orders for a late challenge on Diego Llorente after 65 minutes that saw him handed his second yellow of the game.

The 25-year-old made his displeasure at the decision clear by sarcastically clapping the match official as he made his way off the pitch, which may well land him in further trouble.

Neymar will automatically receive a one-match ban for his sending off, ruling him out of Barça’s clash with Real Sociedad on 15 April but could now face further sanction.

Referee Manzano’s report states that Neymar applauded the decision to send him off which is expected to result in a two-game ban for the Brazilian, ruling him out of the trip to Real Madrid on April 23.

The news is a further blow to Barça on a fairly disastrous night as Luis Enrique’s men blew the chance to move level on points with Madrid, with a defeat that quite possibly ended their title hopes.
