FC Barcelona 2-1 Sevilla FC, 2015-16 La Liga: Player Ratings

A detailed, player-by-player breakdown of Barcelona's win against Sevilla in La Liga.

Claudio Bravo
7.6
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 33
Passes: 23
Pass Accuracy: 83%
Shots Faced: 3
Saves Made: 2
Clearances: 1

Bostjan says: 8.5

Bravo might have again missed out on the clean sheet, but he did get the win, making two saves in the process, the biggest coming early in the second half when he stopped Kévin Gameiro on an one-on-one situation. Could do nothing on the goal allowed as he was let down by the defense. Was again a joy to watch with the ball at his feet, showing fantastic control on numerous occasions, even controlling the ball under pressure with his chest 30-yards from goal.

Aleix Vidal
6.3
Minutes played: 54
Touches: 57
Passes: 50
Pass Accuracy: 86%
Key Passes: 2
Turnovers: 2
Tackles: 0
Shots/Shots on Target: 0/0
Clearances: 0
Aerial Duels Won: 0
Interceptions: 1

Bostjan says: 7.5

Once again looked more comfortable in attack than in defense. This has been the case ever since he first played for Barcelona, and while it was known that Vidal was better in attack, the defense will have to improve for the Spaniard to take over full-time for Alves. In attack, however, Vidal looked very comfortable, showing good vision, and helped create a couple good scoring chances.

Gerard Pique
7.9
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 89
Passes: 81
Pass Accuracy: 85%
Tackles: 0
Interceptions: 2
Clearances: 2
Aerial Duels Won: 1
Shots/Shots on Target: 1/1

Bostjan says: 7.0

Despite scoring his first La Liga goal of the season, Pique didn't have a very impressive game. Scoring is always a bonus for defenders, but their primary job is to defend, and on several occasions Pique looked unsure of his intentions, leading to a couple good scoring chances for Sevilla, like the one by Gameiro early in the second half.

Jeremy Mathieu
7.0
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 80
Passes: 65
Pass Accuracy: 88%
Tackles: 1
Interceptions: 3
Clearances: 4
Aerial Duels Won: 4
Turnovers: 1

Bostjan says: 7.0

Had some difficult moments early in the game and was not well positioned on Vitolo's goal, but improved as the game went on. Was mostly strong positionally and dealt well with threats. Mathieu was especially strong in the air game where he led all players with four won aerial duels.

Jordi Alba
6.8
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 91
Passes: 80
Pass Accuracy: 91%
Shots/Shots on Target: 0/0
Tackles: 4
Interceptions: 1
Clearances: 1
Key Passes: 0
Turnovers: 1

Bostjan says: 6.0

Barcelona may be on a historic unbeaten streak, but Alba, sadly, hasn't done a whole lot to help Barcelona continue their run, especially in recent weeks. Against Sevilla he was once again disappointing, with him again offering very little in attack. Defensively he made a few important plays but he looked far from sure-footed, as evidenced by his poor coverage on Sevilla's only goal.

Sergio Busquets
7.9
Minutes played: 90
Touches:85
Passes: 70
Pass Accuracy: 89%
Shots/Shots on Target: 1/1
Tackles: 4
Interceptions: 3
Clearances: 1
Turnovers: 3
Aerial Duels Won: 1
Key Passes: 0
Fouls Won: 2

Sam says: 8.5

Busquets was at his brilliant best on Sunday. Occupying the senior role in midfield, he routinely took hold of the ball and tried to turn the tide in Barça’s favour. Only Piqué and Alba managed more touches of the ball while Busquets made the joint highest tackles and interceptions. His passing accuracy was slightly lower than usual at 89% but this can be explained by his more advance position leading to a greater risk of an incomplete pass.

Sergi Roberto
6.8
Minutes played: 74
Touches: 47
Passes: 38
Pass Accuracy: 84%
Shots/Shots on Target: 1/0
Turnovers: 2
Key Passes: 1
Fouls Won: 2
Aerial Duels Won: 1

Sam says: 6.5

Roberto struggled to see much of the ball as the game routinely skipped over midfield. He managed just 47 touches, only Claudio Bravo started the game and touched the ball less, which led to a lower influence on the game. On the bright side, he do his defensive work with the tackle and two interceptions but his three fouls meant he picked up a caution.

Arda Turan
6.6
Minutes played: 63
Touches: 55
Passes: 49
Pass Accuracy: 90%
Shots/Shots on Target: 0/0
Fouls Won: 1
Turnovers: 0
Successful Dribbles: 1
Key Passes: 3
Tackles: 2

Sam says: 7.0

Similar to Roberto, Turan struggled to have a real influence on the game. As the match kicked off, Turan was repeatedly sliding to try and win the ball back but this earned him the joint highest amount of fouls for Barça along with Roberto. He did on occasion though put in an accurate cross and create three key passes. He was withdrawn in the 63rd minute for Andrés Iniesta.

Lionel Messi
8.9
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 82
Passes: 68
Pass Accuracy: 79%
Shots/Shots on Target: 6/2
Turnovers: 3
Successful Dribbles: 1
Key Passes: 1
Fouls Won: 2
Tackles: 0

Bostjan says: 8.5

Stole the show again, scoring his sixth free-kick goal of the season, but despite that brilliant goal and hitting the post directly from a corner kick, Messi wasn't as deadly in front of goal as he was recently. Had a couple good scoring chances as well, but couldn't add to his tally. Still, Messi's influence to the game was invaluable and was one of the main reasons Barcelona came away with three points.

Luis Suarez
7.6
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 29
Passes: 27
Pass Accuracy: 76%
Shots/Shots on Target: 4/2
Fouls Won: 2
Successful Dribbles: 2
Key Passes: 2
Turnovers: 2
Clearances: 1

Bostjan says: 8.0

Most of the focus regarding Suarez went to his missed chances, but despite those misses Suarez had a terrific game. He was causing all kinds of problems to the Sevilla defense, picking up the assist on the second and winning the foul from which Messi scored the first. Was unlucky not to score himself, hitting the crossbar in the first half.

Neymar 7.2
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 84
Passes: 61
Pass Accuracy: 84%
Shots/Shots on Target: 2/2
Successful Dribbles: 4
Key Passes: 3
Fouls Won: 1
Turnovers: 3
Tackles: 2

Bostjan says: 7.0

The trickery was back for Neymar who showed plenty of effort and trying to create something throughout the night, but lacked a little precision with some of his passes. Could've scored himself, but like Suarez he too couldn't find a way past Sergio Rico.

Dani Alves
6.8
Minutes played: 36
Touches: 25
Passes: 22
Pass Accuracy: 91%
Clearances: 1

Kevin says: 6.5

Introduced in the 54th minute in place of Aleix Vidal as Barça looked to solidify their control of the game. In truth this never really happened as Sevilla seemed to enjoy most success on Alves' side for the remainder of the 2nd half. Not that he personally played particularly badly, more that this side are clearly suffering from fatigue and seem to be winning games on bollocks and mentality alone at the moment.

Andres Iniesta
7.1
Minutes played: 27
Touches: 33
Passes: 26
Pass Accuracy: 81%
Tackles: 2

Kevin says: 7.0

With 27 left on the clock, a skin-headed Iniesta entered in place of Turan who perhaps had not given the greatest case for himself up to that point. The idea here was to shore up possession to stop Sevilla's oncoming waves of attack, being as they were the fresher team at this stage of the game. Not a vintage performance from the captain but the team and fans alike will always be happy to see him with the armband by their side in the trenches at these vital match periods.

Ivan Rakitić
6.9
Minutes played: 16
Touches: 17
Passes: 12
Pass Accuracy: 100%
Clearances: 3

Kevin says: 6.5

The Croatian stepped onto the pitch with 14 mins of normal time remaining as Barça were creaking somewhat, having cleared the ball off the line only moments earlier. Diligent defensively without contributing much going forward as that ship had sailed for Barça at this point in the game.

The Team 7.8
Passes: 695
Pass Accuracy: 86%
Shots/Shots on Target: 17/8
Tackles: 18
Aerial Battles Won: 50%
Fouls Won/Committed: 10/13

Bostjan says: 8.0

By any stretch of the imagination was this a good game for Barcelona, but in the end it was enough for the Catalans to add three points to their account. On the pitch the story was similar to many recent games. The defense struggled at times but allowed little enough goals for the attack to turn the game around. Speaking of the attack, fatigue is showing there as well as all three members of the MSN trio have been guilty of some uncharacteristic misses.

Luis Enrique
7.6

Kevin says: 8.0

I find it difficult to be critical of the manager after the tanking he took from fans early last season which was just not fully deserved. His team were not great on Sunday evening, which even the most hardened Culé will admit. The fact is though that they once again displayed that mental toughness that is starting to become just as much a trademark of Enrique's side as their offensive flair. His team didn't lay down for Sevilla, they don't look like they're going to lie down for anyone. Gave Sergi, Arda and Vidal much needed minutes and ground out a win to close an insanely packed schedule of games. Rest the boys up and let's go again on Thursday.

MOTM - Lionel Messi
88%

Bostjan says: Messi

Messi's wonder goal from the free kick convinced a vast majority of community members in the Man of the Match voting. Coming in second place was Barcelona's other goalscorer, Pique, with 7%, while only 2% percent were enough for Busquets to make the podium
